Since the Flash player disappeared, the alternatives to interactive content have been interesting. Thankfully there has been some effort put into creating some alternatives, but at it’s basic form, using JavaScript and the HTML5 Canvas can be used to duplicate many of the old flash activities we used to use in education.

Here is a practical example of alternative interactive content that can be used for education using JavaScript designed to run on tablet devices and to be scalable.

There are many examples of different interactions all throughout the content. Try slides 19,20 in Sizing and slide 26 in Colour.

There are two really important aspects about designing to run on a tablet or on screen. The interaction has to allow both touch and mouse as well as scale appropriately using responsive design.
